DIA Forklift's Young Superpro Racer (
07/10/2008 )
There is a new kid in town, Zion Schaub, a Superpro racer of a Chevy Monte Carlo sponsored by Doosan Infracore Forklifts for the 2008 season. Jim Schaub, Zion’s father and car owner, recently joined Doosan as the Midwest Regional Sales Manager. Zion has been racing since he was 5 years old winning three consecutive championships from 1998 through 2000. At the age of 9, Zion switched to Motocross where he won several races and earned his nickname Flyin’ Zion.
Turning 11, he returned to Go-Kart racing where he finished 2nd in season points as a rookie against 15 and 16 year olds. In 2004, Zion won 12 of 13 feature races to earn his 4th Season Championship. The following year Zion left Go-Kart racing to compete in a 4-cylinder class at a local 3/8th mile dirt track. In his rookie year he dominated with 8 feature wins becoming the youngest Season Champion in the history of Cherry Speedway at age 13.
Last year, at age 15, Zion, became a late model racer driving a 2007 Chevy Monte Carlo that he built with his dad. Racing on the Northern Michigan Speedway quarter mile asphalt track, Zion competed in 6 races and finished his rookie year with one win and 5 top five finishes.
So far in 2008 in the SUPERPRO Late Model Series, Zion ranks number #10 with 315 points, a great accomplishment for a 16 year old who is making a name for Doosan Forklifts on the Midwest racing circuit.
